Fergus is a journalist and news consultant. He is an experienced editor and leading expert in digital newsgathering and verification. He is also a prominent advocate for higher industry standards relating to the ethical uses of UGC and social newsgathering. He is the founder of Dig Deeper Media and the co-founder of Pop-Up Newsroom, a collaborative news and technology initiative that works with journalists and newsrooms around the world in order to drive innovation.
Fergus is co-founder of the ONA UGC ethics initiative which in 2016 launched the ONA Social Newsgathering Ethics Code.
