Virtual reality journalism has seen challenges in reaching a mass audience, offering possibilities in immersive storytelling but requiring additional hardware. Augmented reality, meanwhile, brings spectacular technology to devices we already own. VR and AR are opening up creative opportunities, but producing cutting-edge content that also has intrinsic value remains challenging, as does using AR and VR in journalism in a way that overcomes the novelty factor and genuinely serves audiences.
