Roy Peter Clark has taught writing at the Poynter Institute since 1977. He is widely considered among the most influential writing teachers in American journalism — print and digital. He teaches writing from cradle to grave, from elementary school students to Pulitzer Prize-winning reporters. He is the author of 18 books on journalism, writing, language, and literature. Among the most popular are “Writing Tools,” “The Glamour of Grammar,”Help! for Writers,”How to Write Short,” and “The Art of X-Ray Reading.” His iTunesU podcasts on the writing craft have been download millions of times and once ranked #1. He created the National Writers Workshops, regional conferences that attracted thousands of aspiring writers. In 2017 he received an honorary degree from Providence College, his alma mater, and delivered the commencement speech at its Centennial celebration. He lives in St. Petersburg, Florida, with his wife Karen.
