Thomas Jefferson wrote in a personal letter, \u201cNothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper.\u201d And Woodrow Wilson once advocated for \u201cauthority to exercise censorship over the Press to the extent that censorship \u2026 is absolutely necessary to the public safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Trump\u2019s adversarial relationship with the press began the moment he descended the golden escalator at Trump Tower to announce his White House run. \u201cFake news,\u201d \u201cenemy of the people\u201d and \u201cdangerous and sick\u201d are just a few of the barbs Trump has lobbed at the media, and reporters who cover him have faced open hostility as a result.<\/p>\n<p>Will this unprecedented level of acrimony change the relationship between presidents and the press forever, or last only as long as Trump\u2019s run in the Oval Office?
