Podcasting’s Power: growth of an industry fueled by trust, empathy, and voice.

[happy to refocus/amend this with feedback from your team]

Despite podcasting’s 15 year history it’s been just over 3 since the “Third Wave” of podcasting crested in 2014 and the current industry was born. That was the year Serial, Gimlet, Radiotopia, Panoply and the Apple podcast app all launched. Since then there’s been double digital growth in audience and revenue; thousands of new and increasingly diverse creators entering the field – including news publishers like New York Times, WaPo, Vox – and the continued success of public radio crossing over to digital. There’s a cottage industry of production agencies taking shape, and a new pipeline of content licensing from and to Hollywood.

The session offers a strategic big picture look at the industry – why it offers publishers, independent creators, platforms, audiences and advertisers an opportunity to shape a healthy ecosystem from the ground up; which trends are coalescing to thrust podcasting into the mainstream; the competitive landscape and key players; the gaps and risks that remain; and the forecast for the next 3-5 years.

The target audience is executives, editorial, audience engagement and marketing directors who are now making strategic investments in podcasting.
